Busy Birthday Bees!

Stella and Bodi (from our 2011 breeding between Brick and Miska born May 31) who just celebrated their 3rd birthday, were very busy on their birthdays earning new titles!!!  Stella and her hu-mom competed in a Cdn Association of Rally Obedience (CARO) trial to earn her Rally Advanced (RA) title and Bodi was in the US completing his Americah Kennel Club (AKC) Rally Novice (RN) title.  So two sibs and two titles on their third birthday!

Bodi in repose with his new title (Rally Novice) rosette and ribbons!

Stella's mom showing off their gorgeous rosette for Stella's new title (Rally Advanced).
And Bodi also earned two more AKC Coursing Ability Advanced legs while he was at it on his birthday weekend. That's as in "lure coursing"!

Milestone

Major Milestone for Miska!

This past weekend in Tempe AZ, Miska (born June 26, 2003) achieved her 40th title, earning her American Kennel Club Agility Excellent Standard Preferred (AXP) title.  Of all the dogs I've bred, trained and owned, Miska has far exceeded all my expectations.  She is SUPER DOG!!!  And she is the most titled dog I've ever owned or bred.  We've had a ton of fun over the past decade.  And just think what we could/would have accomplished if I hadn't also been busy showing many of her littermates as well as her puppies!!

At 10.5 years of age, Miska isn't about to retire.  She's still a very sound dog, in great physical and mental shape and we are still having waaaaaay too much fun in agility to retire.  I am hoping there  will be several more new titles to add to her name in 2014!!!  Way to go Miska!!! I love you sooo much!  Today, you made your papa (Sasha), mama (Nova) and me very, very proud.

#15, #34 & #35

Title No. 15 for Tyro!

A new United Kennel Club Rally Obedience level 3 title = URO3 for Tyro along with a placement!  This is Tyro's 15th title.  He now exceeds my beloved Sasha who earned 14 titles in his lifetime.  And Tyro also earned 2 legs towards his UKC Companion Dog (CD) title this past weekend at the Grand River Kennel Club UKC shows & trials in Rockton, Ontario.

Tyro

Titles  No. 34 & No. 35 for Miska

And the all-time achiever, Mrs. Wonder Dog, a.k.a. Miska.  Miska earned titles #34 & #35 this past weekend by completing her UKC Companion Dog title (UCD) and her Rally Obedience level 3 title (URO2), both in three straight trials and with placements.

Wonder Dog!

May was a great month for my Miska.  She earned 3 Canadian Kennel Club titles.

  1. Rally Advanced-Excellent - RAE (CKC), May 26, 2013
  2. Agility Intermediate Jumpers (Selected) - (AGJS) (CKC), May 18, 2013
  3. Agility Intermediate Standard (Selected) - (AGIS) (CKC), May 18, 2013
The RAE is Miska's second RAE title as she also earned her American Kennel Club RAE title back in 2010.  Miska is my first Vizsla to earn RAE titles in two countries.  For those who know little or nothing about an RAE title, it involves passing BOTH Advanced and Excellent rally classes in one trial and requires 10 legs (i.e., 20 passes) to complete an RAE.  During our last rally obedience trials, I made a few handling errors in the Excellent classes where one can no longer repeat any stations if you do it wrong; this cost us lots of points but Miska still got very good scores. And Miska is also terrific in agility, usually earning clean runs and many placements. Her RAE title represents her 34th title before her 10th birthday.   I couldn't ask for a better dog!  Miska the WONDER DOG!

Jumping Queen

♫ You are the jumping queen, young and sweet, no Vizsla has-been
Jumping queen, feel the beat from the tambourine ♫
♫ You can soar, you can wrap, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, diggin' the jumping queen  ♫
(apologies and thanks to ABBA)

Miska was just awesome and we had a great time at this weekend's Fiesta Cluster agility trials held at Westworld in Scottsdale AZ.  She obtained a total of 4 qualifying scores to complete two American Kennel Club titles: Open Standard Agility Preferred (OAP) and Open Jumpers Preferred (OJP) ALL with scores of 100, 100, 95, 95 and first place finishes!!  Back in November she had earned her first legs for each title.  These are Miska's 29th and 30th titles to date and her registered name is getting longer and longer and longer!!  That's a wonderful thing!

I moved Miska up to the Excellent level today and I was very hopeful she would Q.  She didn't but only because she missed the entry to the weave poles in both classes. A single mistake in Excellent costs us a leg so each run must be perfect.  Apart from the weaves, the rest of her two runs were clean!!  So I was thrilled with her performance in the Excellent class even though we didn't qualify.  And I was so happy I didn't get lost on the course (my biggest fear and problem).  We haven't worked the weaves a whole lot apart from just getting her to do 12 successfully.  Now I know we have to work on entries to the weaves from all different angles but I know she will be successful.

Here are a few scenes from the trials this weekend.

New Jr Hunter title

Congratulations to Bodi (BIS CH Varazs Mokany Kiralyi Orban FDJ JH  URO1 CGN NAVHDA NA PZ I) from our 2011 litter between mama Miska and papa Brick (Ch Pirok Tegla MH) and his owner Corrine Sellars for earning his American Kennel Club Jr. Hunter title on October 7, 2012!! This is his first AKC title completed.  It's like the CKC Field Dog Jr. title but the differences are:

1) a dog is braced with another when being tested
2) a dog must earn 4 legs rather than 3 to earn a JH title.

Bodi earned his title in 4 straight passes.  Well done!! For more pics from the hunt tests, visit Bodi's Blog entry.

More new titles!

Varazs-bred dogs have been busy lately. Four of them earned titles recently and I salute and congratulate their owners! (Well, 2 of the dogs happen to be mine but nonetheless. . . )

New Rally Novice Title!

On July 18 Stella (Miska's daughter from our 2011 litter) and her owner Teri Martin completed their CKC Rally Novice title with a High in Class!  Their scores were 96, 95 and 93 / 100!  This is Stella's second title just after turning 1 year of age.  Stella's name is now Varazs Kedvesem Final Dance RN CGN.   This is quite an accomplishment for such a young dog.  Way to go!

Stella and owner Teri

New Rally Excellent Title!

Shandy (from our 2003 litter and sister to my Miska) and her owner Chrissie Diron earned their final CKC Rally Excellent leg for their title, also with a High in Class! Their scores were 86, 95 and 87. Congratulations!  Unfortunately I don't have a picture of Shandy in this event.  This is Shandy's 11th title.

2 New Agility Titles!

Miska  finished her Novice Agility Standard title (Selected class) with a clean run at the Barrie Kennel and Obedience agility trials on August 4 under brutally hot and humid conditions.  Her daughter, Diva, also finished her Novice Jumpers title with 1 fault and a score of 95.  This was Miska's 24th title and Diva's 8th.

Neither had a clean run in Intermediate jumpers on Saturday.  I felt like I was going to die out there especially since I was very jetlagged, had a bad head cold and had done something to my lower back.  The weather really fried my brain and I messed up badly on Saturday missing obstacles which resulted in NQ's for my dogs in trial 2 (Jumpers).  Great dogs - too bad about the handler!! Sunday was better for everyone although we did get rain but it wasn't as hot.  Miska earned her first Intermediate Standard leg with a clean run and a slightly faster time than her daughter!! Diva earned 2 Intermediate Standard legs with scores of 100 and 95.  Now I can't wait to finish their Intermediate titles!

Thanks to Shelley at Staurolite Photography for these agility photos.

2 Agility titles!

For the first time in 8 years, I entered and ran some agility trials.  The hiatus was largely due to:
  1. knee injuries involving surgery and  casts
  2. too busy raising and showing puppies
  3. too busy doing other stuff with my 3 dogs such as rally, conformation, field and obedience.
So it was really wonderful to return to competition with 8-year old Miska and her 3-year old daughter, Diva at the same venue in Kitchener-Waterloo ON where I had previously trialed with my Vizsla, Keira who was awesome at agility.  In all, despite very high heat and lots of sun this past weekend. we survived our first weekend of agility trials, returning home with 2 new titles and 2 legs towards another title for both Miska and Diva.

Miska
In the five trials Miska ran (the club screwed up our sixth), Miska placed 1st every time! And she had 3 clean runs.

May 19, Judge Danielle Levangie. Trial 1, Novice Select, 16": 100/100 & 1st place. Trial 3, Novice Jumpers with Weaves Select - 100 & 1st.

May 20, Judge Joan Greenwald, Trial 4: Novice Select, 16": 90/100 & 1st. Trial 5, Novice JWW Select: 90/100 & 1st.  Trial 6, JWW: 100/100 & 1st. New title: Agility Novice Jumpers - Select (AGNJS).   This is Miska's 22nd title.

Here is Miska running her final Jumpers With Weaves run for her title.  She misses the entrance to the weaves but did them successfully.

Diva
Diva ran 6 trials and she's got lots more speed than her mom but she needs more focus on me and also needs to perfect her turns, contacts and jumping technique.  So she actually didn't do as well as her Mom Miska but still managed to get 5 Q's with two 1sts and 3 second place finishes along with a new title of Agility Novice (AgN) so I was very happy.

May 19, Judge Danielle Levangie. Trial 1, Novice B Standard, 20": 85/100 & 2nd place. Trial 2, 100/100 and 1st. Trial 3, Novice B Jumpers with Weaves DNQ - overtime.

May 20, Judge Joan Greenwald, Trial 4: Novice B Standard, 20": 90/100 & 2nd. Trial 5, Novice B, Jumpers with Weaves: 100/100 & 1st.  Trial 6, JWW: 90/100 & 2nd.

Mr. CD

It's been over 2 years since I last earned an obedience title on one of my dogs. This weekend, it was Tyro's turn to complete his Companion Dog (CD) title.  Not quite a month ago, Tyro earned his first two legs and this weekend at the Georgina Kennel & Obedience Club's obedience trials, he earned his 3rd and final CD leg with a score of 190.5/200 and a 4th place on the Saturday - accomplishing this title in 3 straight trials!

Since I had entered him in 2 trials this weekend, we returned on Sunday for a 'bonus' run.  And it was a really nice one!  Tyro earned 194.5 in Novice A and with that score, he placed 1st in his class!  Now his official name is CH Varazs Napkelte Tyrone CD, Am/Can RN, Am/Can RA, Am RE, CGN.  And topping off Tyro's Terrific Weekend, he earned two legs (with very good scores) towards his CKC Rally Excellent title on Friday.  Woo hoo Tyro!!!! Mama, Nova,(CH Ferngold Varazs Innovation Am/Can CD, Can RN, Am RE, FDJ CGN) would have been so proud! I know your daddy Hudson (Am/Can/Int CH Kizmar Touch of Evil JH RA) is.

Milo earns his 10th title!

Today Milo earned his Rally Advanced title from the Cdn Association of Rally Obedience (CARO). It was 3 years since legs 1 and 2 were achieved! Milo completed Leg 1 in Sept. '05 with a 1st place & score of 190; Leg 2 in Nov. '05: 1st with 190; and finally Leg 3 in Oct. '08: 3rd with 186. To earn the "cum laude", the team's average score must be between 180 and 189; their average was 188.7. So he gets to add CL for 'cum laude' after the RA - therefore RACL. Yes, Vizslas are smart; this just confirms it!

This is Corrine and Milo's 10th title. Milo is officially known as Varazs Mokany Ficko FDJ, RN (CARO), RN (AKC), RACL (CARO), AgNJ, AGN, SSGDC, SADC, CL1-R, CGN. Way to go team! If you need a guide to these titles, look below.

Translation of Titles:
FDJ - Field Dog Jr (hunting)
RN - Rally Novice
RACL - Rally Advanced Cum Laude
AgNJ - Agility Novice Jumpers with weaves
AGN - Agility Novice (Standard)
