2012 Tibor Reiter Trophy Recipient

2012 TIBOR REITER TROPHY RECIPIENT

Earlier in 2013, our beloved Nova (CH Ferngold Varazs Innovation Can/Am CD, FDJ, JH, Can/Am RA, Am RE, Am RAE, CGN) was posthumously awarded the Tibor Reiter Trophy by the Vizsla Society of Ontario Inc. for the year 2012.  This award recognizes one Vizsla annually that overall has demonstrated the highest level of versatility in a number of different sports. Eligible Vizslas must have a title in three areas, two of which must be Conformation and Field.  Nova earned a total of 12 titles in four areas:
  1. Conformation
  2. Field
  3. Rally-Obedience
  4. Obedience.

Nova is the dam of 18 puppies and grand-dam to 12 and great-grand dam to many others.  She is the second Vizsla of mine to earn this award.  Our wonderful Sasha (Am/Can CH Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Can CDX FDJ TT CGC, 1992 - 2008) previously earned this award in 2007.  Only one dog per year can earn this honor and I was very thrilled that it was presented to Nova, although sadly, she wasn’t with me to accept it since she passed away in June 2009.  Nova, you are still loved, greatly missed and I think of you often.  Until we meet again. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Dog show scenes from Caledonia ON

Last weekend I was at dog shows in Caledonia Ontario with a few of my dogs.  There were two specialty shows for Vizslas (OAPBDFC and Vizsla Society of Ontario) and 4 all breed shows hosted by the Erie Shores Kennel Club.

Elsie (Varazs Kedves Grand Finale) from our 2011 litter free stacking.  She came 2nd in her class and was Reserve Winners Bitch on one of the days.

VSO Specialty Show & Sweepstakes

Four of my dogs did very well at the 2012 Vizsla Society of Ontario's Specialty Show and Sweepstakes.  First to the Puppy Sweepstakes.  Elsie, a female puppy from Miska's last litter born May 31, 2011, was entered in the 12-18 month old Female Puppy Sweepstakes.  She won her class and then was selected as Best of Opposite Sex in Puppy Sweeps!

Second to the Veteran Sweepstakes. Nine year-old Vadasz (Am/Can CH Varazs Kiralyi Vadaszat FDJ, Can/Am CD, NAVHDA NA Prize II, JH, RN (AKC), RA (AKC), CGN) won the 7-10 year old veteran class and then was awarded Best Veteran in Sweepstakes.  His sister and my dog Miska (won the 7-10 year old Female Veteran class and then was awarded Best of Opposite in Veteran Sweepstakes.  The judge was Alexandria Richard of London, ON, herself a long-time Vizsla breeder and owner.  It was an honor to my dogs to be acknowledged by her.

And then Miss Elsie took Reserve Winners Bitch in the Specialty Show under Hungarian judge, Dr. Tamas Jekkel of Budapest. To see more of Elsie at the show, click here.

Quest (CH Varazs Kedves Quester) made the cut for Best of Breed.  He was handled by my friend, Rhonda Smith Gianni.

Elsie's first dog show

Pretty Elsie

Elsie, aka Miss Yellow, aka Varazs Kedvesem Grand Finale born May 31, 2010 out of our Miska-Brick litter attended her first dog shows this past weekend.  And she picked up 4 points towards her CKC Champion title.  And she was also entered in the Vizsla Society of Ontario's 2012 Specialty Show Puppy Sweepstakes and Specialty Show and did very, very well!  Although she didn't take any points at the VSO shows, she was Best Female Puppy in the 12-18 month-old and was Best of Opposite Sex in the Puppy Sweeps which were judged by fellow Vizsla breeder, Alexandria Richard of Kivalo Vizslas who has bred some lovely Vizslas.

Later at the Specialty Show, Elsie was pulled into first place in the Bred-by Exhibitor class by Hungarian judge, Dr. Tamas Jakkel of Budapest but a late participant in the class (due to an error by the show secretary) usurped her win.  She came 2nd in the Bred-By class and went Reserve Winners Bitch.

At other shows throughout the weekend hosted by the Hamilton Kennel Club, Elsie took her 4 points under judges Lisa Avery (Brantford, ON), Michael Hill (Toronto, ON) and sporting dog breeder and judge, Virginia Lyne of Saanichton, BC.  Way to go Elsie!!

VSO Booster show, Dec. 6, 2008

On December 6, 2008 I went to watch the Vizsla Society of Ontario's Vizsla Booster (supported entry) show. I was particularly curious to see the entries and what the judge would pick. The judge was Carmen Haller, a former Vizsla owner/handler whose dog, CH Vizsta's Royal Pacesetter
set many records in Canada in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Entered were 2 puppies, Reese and Dexter, that are half-brothers to my Miska-Ozzie litter, Ozzie (CH Hubertus Quality Control) an import from Australia being the sire of these puppies that were born 10 days before Miska's litter. Reese and Dexter just turned 6 months old and this was their first show; they were in the 6 to 9 month class. Carmen picked Reese as the winner of this class and then she picked him as her Winners' Dog and also Best of Opposite Sex over a male Special for 3 points! A very nice win for this young puppy at his very first show.

Here's a photo of Reese:

Here's a photo of Dexter:

For her Best of Breed and Group 4th, Carmen picked CH Gardenway Lienroc Beatrice an English import whose sire is Hungargunn Bear Itn Mind (Yogi), a very famous Vizsla in Australia and England. Carmen appeared to like the bone and substance of her BOB and WD/BOS.

And I was also delighted to see 11-year old CH Gardenway Celtic Breeze entered as a Veteran. Bree is the mother of my Nova and grandmother to my Miska and great-grand dam to our June 2008 litter. She was handled by Jr Handler, Erin Wilkes, Eileen Wilke's daughter.
