Wonderful Weekend

Last weekend (September 13-15), I tried (and succeeded) to be in two different towns on the same days (Saturday and Sunday) to participate in dog events with three different dogs.  Because of the schedules and timing, it worked!!!  We had a very successful weekend overall.

Elsie was Reserve Winners bitch on Friday at the Oakville Kennel Club's show but came back on Saturday to take Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed for 3 points.  AND the judge, Marjorie Mortrrella from the US, pulled Elsie out in the sporting group too.  Marjoried commented that she is "a very pretty bitch".  It was a nice way to finish Elsie's championship.

Congratulations to Elsie's littermate / brother, Charlie (Varazs Kedvesem Final Frontier), who picked up 3 more points towards his Championship over the weekend at the Oakville show after taking Best of Opposite Sex on Friday over a Grand Champion for 1 point and Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Breed on Sunday for 2 more points!  Now he is sitting on the 'dreaded 9' meaning he needs only 1 point to finish.  We call it the 'dreaded 9' because it can sometimes take a long time to get that final point.

And lastly, Diva and I participated in United Kennel Club agility trials in Puslinch Ontario and she earned her Agility Level 1 title with scores of 196, 198 and 199 out of 200.  Diva is the first dog ever to earn a UKC agility title in Ontario (and possibly Canada) since this was the very first UKC agility trial held in this province (and possibly this country).  She earned 3 first places finishes and a High in Trial on Sunday. (Yes, the UKC gives out HIT rosettes for agility although this club didn't have the rosettes to give out that day.)  This was Diva's 18th title!!  She's now officially known as CKC/Int'l/UKC CH Varazs Kedves Quickstep CKC: FDJ, AgNJ, AGI, RN, PCD, CGN, AKC: JH, NA, NAJ, RN, CGC UKC: URO1, CA, AGI

Congratulations to Bodi (2011 litter out of Brick & Miska) and his hu-mom for earning his 

Canadian Kennel Club GRAND CHAMPION title!!

New Grand Champion!!

Bodi is the first Varazs-bred dog to earn this Canadian title since the CKC introduced the new titling changes on January 1, 2013. Another Varazs-bred dog, Andras (2008 litter out of Ozzie & Miska), earned an American Kennel Club Grand Champion title in 2011.

Bodi is now known as BIS (UKC), CKC/UKC CH, CKC GCH Varazs Mokany Kiralyi Orban FDJ, JH, RN, URO1, CGN, UKC CA, NAVHDA NA PZ I.  At two years of age, Bodi has accomplished more than most dogs do in a lifetime!! Thanks to his owner for giving Bodi such a rich and varied life!

Bodi born May 31/11 from our Miska-Brick breeding is now a Canadian CHAMPION! He finished his title at the Kilbride Kennel Club show in Milton ON on August 10.  This is his fourth title at 14.5 months of age.  His mother Miska is now the dam of 7 champions.  Bodi's title means Varazs-bred and owned dogs have earned 36 CKC champion titles to date!

NEW OBEDIENCE TITLE!

Stella who is a littermate to Bodi earned her CKC Pre-Novice Obedience title on August 10 so she can add PCD behind her name.  This is Stella's third title!  Way to go Stella and owner/hander Teri!!  (Sorry, no pic is available of their title)!

Murphy (CH Vitali Intrepid Murphy) is a descendent of  my dogs.  I bred Murphy's mom - and by the way, Murphy is actually a female - who is Shandy from my 2003 litter between our Sasha and Nova.  This makes Murphy a grand-daughter to Sasha and Nova.  Yes it can get very confusing when we start to talk about pedigrees and who's who and who's related to whom.   Anyhoodle - Murphy just finished her Canadian Champion title with two Sporting Group placements (Group 3rd and 4th) on Vancouver Island, BC earlier this month (August 2012).

Diva's a Champion!

We 'missed' celebrating Diva's Canadian Championship because at the time, I miscalculated the number of points she had earned when she had her Group 4th placement at the Burlington Kennel Club show in late September.  According to Cdn Kennel Club rules, dogs can earn extra points if they take a group placement; the number of points are determined by the number of breeds present in the group.  That's where I went wrong. Diva needed 2 points to finish and I calculated there were only enough Sporting Dog breeds to make 1 point.  Perhaps I forgot to include Vizslas in the calculation because according to the CKC, she earned 2 points at that show and that was enough to finish her championship! It wasn't until I received her certificate in the mail 3 months later that I discovered she was a CKC Champion. And during that time, I thought she was sitting on the 'dreaded 9 point' position.

And so, this past weekend, I was showing Diva in United Kennel Club shows. Her mother, Miska, outshown her but the final judge of the day slightly preferred Diva over Miska and gave Diva the breed which finished her UKC Champion title on Sunday. She also earned a Group 2nd in the Gun Dog group but group placements in the UKC do not give any points. 

UKC shows are very relaxed shows as no professional handlers are allowed to exhibit dogs. Only  owners or breeders can exhibit dogs.  There are many breeds that aren't yet recognized by the AKC or CKC so it's an opportunity to view some unusual breeds.  I got to see my first Braco Italiano and Redbone Coonhound for which many people mistake Vizslas.  Unfortunately, these two breeds weren't present on Sunday when I brought my camera so I didn't get a photo of them.

Anyway, Diva now has acquired 3 Champion titles from three different organizations: 

1. Canadian Kennel Club (Sept. 26, 2010)
2. International All Breed Canine Assoc. (IABCA) (Dec. 12, 2010)
3. United Kennel Club (Jan. 30, 2011)

At the age of 7.5 years, Miska acquired her fourth Champion title today, competing in United Kennel Club (UKC) all breed shows. This is her 18th title to date!  She also earned two Group 3rd placements in the Gun Dog group under judges Andrew (Gene) Mills of Bonita CA and Deborah Allen of Farmville VA. The green ribbons are the Group 3rd ribbons.  Miska is now known as:

International Champion

Shandy out of our 2003 breeding between Am/Can Ch Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Can CDX, Am RAE, FDJ, CGC, CGN (Sasha) and Can CH Ferngold Varazs Innovation Am/Can CD, Can RN, Am RAE, FDJ JH CGN (Nova) can now add International Champion to her titles!  She participated in the International All Breed Canine Association (IABCA) shows in Ridgefield, Washington on Oct. 9-10, 2010. In addition to receiving a very positive written evaluation, a new title, Shandy also took a Group 2nd.  She's now known as:

RA (CKC & CARO), CGN

Shandy participated in 4 shows on the weekend. Judges Richard Byrd and Sylvia Hammarstrom gave her Best of Breed, with Sylvia Hammarstrom then awarding Shandy a Group 2nd. Mr Byrd thought she was a stunning veteran and really wanted to recognize the fact that even though she was older, she had it all still! Ms Hammarstrom just loved Shandy's type. She was very outspoken about how disappointed she is in most Vizslas she sees, as coming from Europe she finds most N. American Vizslas to be far too fine, flimsy and their heads all snipey.

In addition, Shandy's almost six-year old daughter, Pia was also entered and took two Best of Breeds and a Group 3rd and was also awarded her International Champion title. She's now known as Int'l CH Vitali Olympia.

Our American Vizsla relative

This past weekend, south of the border - in the US, that is - one of our American Vizsla relatives finished his AKC Championship title. CH Red Dawn Mr Fritz is a son of Sara (CH Varazs Sara's Full of Grace MH). Sara lives in California and is out of our 2001 breeding between Am/Can CH Varazs Abracadbra (Abby) and Am CH Voros Vadasz Cyrus Barat MH. Three of Sara's kids from two breedings are now American Champions. Well done Sara and congratulations to Pam Lambros, Mr Fritz's breeder and to Mr. Fritz's family!

Tyro is our newest Champion!

Our 2-year old Tyro became a Cdn Champion today, taking Best of Breed to earn his final 2 points. He's now officially known as CH Varazs Napkeltei Tyrone and becomes our 43rd champion of the Vizslas we've owned and bred. Tyro is also the 7th out of eight puppies in his litter to become a Canadian Champion. His dam, Nova (CH Ferngold Varazs Innovation Am/Can CD, Am/Can RA, Am RE, FDJ, CGN) had 18 kids and 14 are now Champions.


Only dog show people are crazy enough to show outdoors in the pouring rain and mud which it was both days at the show. Saturday was worse with thunder, lightening and torrential downpours at times. When we arrived at the show, it was merely raining but the rings and areas surrounding the rings were ankle deep in water and mud. There were delays because of the lightening but the show still went on. On Saturday, Tyro was merely "Best of Opposite Sex", meaning he was runner-up to the Best of Breed and because there were no other males, he didn't pick up any points on Saturday. But we had another chance on Sunday.

On Sunday, the rings were an absolute mess and I couldn't believe the hosting club didn't bring straw bales to scratter on the wet and muddy ground. There are many great things about owning a Vizsla and the fact that they have very short hair and are rust coloured, means they don't look too bad when they get muddy, unlike the coated breeds or any dog that is light-coloured. There was no way on earth that those fluffy, furry, clipped and groomed foo-foo breeds like the shitzus and pomeranians or even the golden retrievers or samoyeds were going to stay dry and clean. I saw 2 pristine white, poodles being carried from the car to the ring in the arms of its owner. Problem was, the ring it was about to enter was a mud bath and so I couldn't help but chuckle. Anyway, Sunday's judge picked Tyro as his Best of Breed over the other Winners Female and that gave him his final 2 points. Way to go Tyro!
