Eight for Eight!

Varazs Vizslas has 3 birthdays in June!  Yesterday, one litter turned six and today, the eight puppies from our 2006 litter turn 8! 
Hence, 8 for 8!

Happy 8th Birthday to our 2006 litter born June 17th.  The 8 puppies turning 8 are:  Lucy 1, Lucy 2, Nika, Ruby1, Lloyd, Tessie, Tucker and our Tyro . They are out of Am/Can/Int'l Ch Kizmar Touch of Evil CD RE JH (Hudson)  and our  Nova (CH Ferngold Varazs Innovation Can/Am CD, FDJ, JH, Can/Am RA, Am RE, Am RAE, CGN.)  Many people mistake Tyro for a puppy because of his high energy and youthful appearance!! He doesn't have much grey hair except for a bit under his chin.

2012 TIBOR REITER TROPHY RECIPIENT

Earlier in 2013, our beloved Nova (CH Ferngold Varazs Innovation Can/Am CD, FDJ, JH, Can/Am RA, Am RE, Am RAE, CGN) was posthumously awarded the Tibor Reiter Trophy by the Vizsla Society of Ontario Inc. for the year 2012.  This award recognizes one Vizsla annually that overall has demonstrated the highest level of versatility in a number of different sports. Eligible Vizslas must have a title in three areas, two of which must be Conformation and Field.  Nova earned a total of 12 titles in four areas:

1. Conformation
2. Field
3. Rally-Obedience
4. Obedience.  

Nova is the dam of 18 puppies and grand-dam to 12 and great-grand dam to many others.  She is the second Vizsla of mine to earn this award.  Our wonderful Sasha (Am/Can CH Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Can CDX FDJ TT CGC, 1992 - 2008) previously earned this award in 2007.  Only one dog per year can earn this honor and I was very thrilled that it was presented to Nova, although sadly, she wasn’t with me to accept it since she passed away in June 2009.  Nova, you are still loved, greatly missed and I think of you often.  Until we meet again. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I love hearing from the owners of our puppies, especially when it's good news or just to get updates and photos of the dogs. 

The owner of CH Varazs Nyar Sea Breeze, aka Lucy, sent me these recent pictures of her.  Lucy, who lives on the west coast of Canada just turned 7 years of age on June 17, was out of our 2006 litter with our beloved dam Nova and stud dog Hudson (CH Kizmar Am/Can/International CH Kizmar Touch of Evil JH RA).  Lucy has, in my opinion, a lovely face and head.  I can see in the first photo that just like her brother Tyro, Lucy is getting a few white hairs under her chiny-chin chin.  Depending on whether you consider the Vizsla to be a medium-size or large-sized breed (I consider it to be medium), a 7-year old dog is about equal to 47 in human years.  Lots of people start to get grey hairs before this but by around 47 - 50, most of us are starting to turn grey so maybe this is also  normal in dogs.  Whaddya think?.

Two females in that litter were given the call name Lucy so to distinguish them, I had to refer to them as Lucy 1 and Lucy 2.  This was Lucy 2.   I especially love the photo of Lucy with the birthday hat on!!  Many thanks to Barb K for the photos!!  Happy Birthday again Lucy 2!!

Pointing styles - adult dogs

In the dog world, seeing a Vizsla on point doing what's been bred to do is such a thrill.  There's nothing I can do to train a dog to point,  This comes naturally or innately.  Here are some photos of a number of our adult dogs pointing.  In some of these photos they are pointing game, in others they are honoring another dog on point so the intensity of the tail sometimes indicate whether they are pointing real game or not!

More 2003 litter "birthday" pics

The 2003 litter one of my favourites largely because of the wonderful sire, my beloved Sasha, and my lovely dam Nova.  They were among two of my favourite Vizslas and Sasha is my all-time fav male.  The ten puppies (yes!) in this litter all have exceptional temperaments, fantastic abilities, are very intelligent and have lovely conformation.  So far, all 10 puppies from this litter, which recently turned 9 years old, are alive and very healthy.   Here are recent (within a year) photos of 3 more from the litter: Hudson, Zsofi and Rachel.

9 year old Puppy

There's no doubt about it.  Ruby1 (to distinguish her from another Ruby in our 2006 litter) from our 2003 litter which turned turned 9 years old on June 26, still looks and acts like a PUPPY!  Her owner kept saying that but I had trouble believing it until Ruby came to stay with us for a couple of weeks.  I hadn't seen much of Ruby over the years because she initially was sent out to live in British Columbia on the west coast of Canada.  Her owners then moved to Ontario but were busy raising a baby so it wasn't until a couple of years ago that we finally met up and I had a short reunion with Ruby.  However, it wasn't until she came to stay with us that I got a real opportunity to get reacquainted.  Not only is she still very puppy-like, she is a real sweetheart!  And boy, does she ever remind me of her mother, Nova.  Her eyes are like Nova's and she stands like Nova - and she HUMPS BEDS just like Nova did.  More about this behaviour later!  She doesn't have the build of Nova but Ruby certainly reminds me a lot of our beloved Nova.  And her muzzle reminds me more of her dad Sasha and her sister Zsofi.  All in all, she's an extremely pretty, fun-loving, playful and very sweet Varazs-bred Vizsla with a great temperament!
