HAPPY BIRTHDAY MILA!!!

Happy 14th Birthday to Mila (M-OTCH Szuni's Shooting Star UD FDX TD AGI AGDC AADC CGC)!  She was sired by my beloved Sasha (Am/Cdn Ch Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Cdn CDX, Am RAE, FDJ, CGC, CGN).  Her birthday was actually yesterday (July 25).  I am very pleased to report that many of Sasha's kids have lived well into their senior years (12+) and some have reached 13 and now 14!!!  I am hoping his longevity genes carry through to all of his offspring!! 

Happy Barkday Mila!!!  May you live long and be healthy for years to come!!!

Below is a video showing Mila beating up her two-year old grandson, Galen, in Vancouver BC where they live.  Despite her senior years and almost white coat, Mila still can dish it out when needed!! Old girls rock!!

These two lovely lady Vizslas are Miska's older half-sisters.  They share the same father - our wonderful Sasha (BPIG* Am/Can CH Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Can CDX, FDJ, RE, RAE, TT, CGC, CGN).  They are: Mila (L) aka M-OTCH Szuni's Shooting Star UD FDX TD AGI AGDC AADC CGC and Kosmo (R) aka CH Szuni's Rising Star FD ADC CGC.  These girls turned 13 on July 25 and this photo was taken this fall.  Thanks to breeder Susan Scobie of Szuni Reg'd Vizslas for sharing this photo with me.

Mom in this case is Miska.  She's been an awesome mother to 12 puppies, six in each of her two litters.  But even before she had her own babies, she demonstrated wonderful maternal instincts when her younger siblings (our Nova-Hudson litter) were born in 2006.  At that time, Miska was 3 years old and so badly wanted to join her mom, Nova, in the whelping box to help clean and nurse Nova's 8 puppies (even though Miska couldn't nurse at the time).  It's really no surprise that she's been a fantastic mother because her mom, Nova, was tremendous, Miska's paternal grand-mother, Nekah was also an extremely devoted mother and Miska's maternal grand-ma, Bree, is wonderful around other dogs.  As well, Miska's father, Sasha, was absolutely terrific with puppies and all dogs and Brick, the father of our 2011 litter also has a terrific personality.  Adding to the wonderful temperament/fantastic mom list is Miska's sister/littermate, Shandy (2 litters), half-sister Mila sired by our Sasha) and niece Gypsy (who is Mila's daughter/Sasha's grand-daughter).  All of these female Vizslas have been wonderful mothers to their puppies.  So here's to you terrific Vizsla Moms!

It's so important to breed dogs with good temperaments.  I know of a few Vizsla breeders that haven't always done this but they shall remain nameless.  If you don't have a good stable temperament in the parents, then you are being irresponsible by breeding them.

These Vizslas were sired by our wonderful Sasha (Am/Cdn Ch Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Cdn CDX, Am RAE, FDJ, CGC, CGN) and whelped by Cdn Ch Pozsony Csongrad Lucy CDX FDX TD AGN CGC ("Lucy") on July 25, 1999. Their breeder is Susan Scobie of Szuni Reg'd Vizslas in Vancouver, BC.  These photos were taken in August 2010 when they had turned 11.  Sasha lived into his 16th year and I am hoping many of his kids live to that grand old age too.

Nekah - who started it all

Today, our foundation bitch would have been 20 years old if she was still alive. She was born in New York state and came to be known as Maritza of Kezdet Nekah.  "Nekah" was our first Vizsla puppy and first female as we had adopted two adult Vizslas before her.  I can still remember so clearly picking her up in Syracuse, NY from Judy Vernon (now Judy Saddlemire).  Nekah wasn't Judy's litter but Judy had 'supervised' the breeding.  We didn't have a crate because we didn't know how big Nekah would be. So we tried to fasten 2 laundry baskets together to bring her to her new home in Canada.  It was about a 5-hour drive and Nekah screamed the entire way!

I dearly loved Nekah.  She became the first Vizsla that I handled to her Canadian and American Champion titles. I also earned her American & Cdn Companion Dog title.  She eventually became, Am/Can CH Maritza of Kezdet Nekah Am/Can CD,CGC.  We lost Nekah at too young an age but she started the Varazs legacy. She was dam of:

Age is just a number!

We're sooooo proud of Sasha's daughter Mila ( M-OTCH Szuni's Shooting Star CD CDX UD FDJ FD FDX TD AGN AGI AGDC AADC CGC.  At the "young" age of 11 dog years, Mila burned up the agility course at the AAC's (Agility Assoc. of Canada) 2010 Nationals held in Calgary, AB on August 7 & 8, 2010. Don't let the white on Mila fool you! She's still capable of showing up the younger dogs.  Her owner, Susan Scobie, of Vancouver, BC took the trip to the Natinals "just to have fun on a final agility fling”.  Well, the event turned into a bigger ribbon haul than ever expected!  

On Sat, in their 3 runs, Mila placed 5, 6, and 37 out of 45 dogs in the Double Drop Veteran group.  On Sunday, they placed 2, 3 and 13th!  Mila & Sue's overall placing was #7 which got them to the foot of the podium.  Below Susan's sister helps with all the rosettes this dream team won.

 In Susan's words, "Mila, what a dog – and isn’t she just the cutest?   Being on her team has been such a blast for the past 11 years!  Thanks yet again, Mila!" And of course, we can't be any prouder because she's one of our beloved Sasha's kids. I know he's wagging his tail furiously in doggie heaven, thrilled with her latest accomplishment.  HUGE congratulations to Susan and especially MILA!!!

2010 AAC Regionals

I'm absolutely chuffed to write that Mila (M-OTCH Szuni's Shooting Star CD CDX UD FDJ FD FDX TD AGN AGI AGDC AADC CGC) sired by our Sasha (Am/Cdn CH Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Cdn CDX, Am RAE, FDJ, CGC, CGN (Sasha), ended up in 5th in her group at the Agility Association of Canada's regional competition in British Columbia on June 12-13, 2010.  (Detailed results still to be posted at the time of this post.) That means Mila and her breeder/owner Susan Scobie of Vancouver made the podium!  Two years ago, they placed 9th overall at the regionals when Mila was two years younger.  This year's improved accomplishment is even sweeter because Mila is almost 11 years young! Let's hear it for Mila and Sue!!!!!  We - and Sasha - are SOOOO proud of you!

10 years young!

Susan Scobie's Sasha-Lucy breeding turns 10 years old today (July 25, 2009). Susan celebrated last week with a dog walk along the beach in Vancouver, BC. Sasha, their sire, is my beloved Vizsla from our first Vizsla litter, who passed away January 22, 2008 in his 16th year.

The weather was perfect for the birthday bash and there was a good turnout of Vizslas and their humans. Three of Sasha's kids from this breeding came out for the fun: Susan's Mila as well as sister Kosmo and brother Elliot. Plus Chrissie & Jens Diron who own another Sasha daughter, Shandy, from my Sasha-Nova breeding, make the long trek from Vancouver Is. with Shandy and their 3 other Vizslas, including a Sasha grand-daughter, Pia. I wish I could have been there to have seen everyone but instead, the photos will have do. Thanks to Susan for sharing these wonderful pictures of the Sasha-Lucy gang and of Mila's kids (more of Sasha's grandkids).

Mila, the wonder Vizsla!

Mila (M-OTCH Szuni's Shooting Star UD FDX TD AGN AGI AGDC AADC CGC) who is a daughter of our beloved Sasha (Am/Cdn Ch Varazs Kiraly Sassy Sasha Am/Cdn CDX, Am RAE, FDJ, CGC, CGN) recently earned two more agility titles from the Agility Association of Canada:

Congratulations Susan and Mila! Mila isn't quite 10 years old but she's still going strong and these are her 14th and 15th titles. She's still burns up the agility course and is usually much faster than dogs half her age. Susan Scobie, Mila's owner & breeder, and I both hope she'll follow in her dad's paw steps and keep competing in something well into her old age as did Sasha (earning his Am RAE in his 15th year). Here's a photo of Mila at a younger age, doing the weaves. Mila is an 'awesome pawsome".

There isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about my dearly departed Sasha. So it was lovely to learn that two of his grandkids recently earned their Canadian Championships. They were bred by Susan Scobie of Szuni Reg'd Vizslas in British Columbia and their mother is M-OTCH Szuni's Shooting Star UD FDX TD AGI AGDC CGC, "Mila", who is Sasha's daughter. Mila was mated to an Onpoint dog to produce these kids.
